The government wants Walsall MBC to respond to an Audit Commission recommendation to replace its top managers by a private sector team before issuing directions (LGC,14 June). Local government minister Nick Raynsford has written to Walsall asking for a response by Thursday this week.
Some 40 officers will be axed in a management restructure at North Lincolnshire council, chief executive Michael Garnett told 4,000 staff. The job losses were part of a plan announced in March to outsource£30m worth of services following a consultation process.
Last week a story in LGC suggested
the Audit Commission provided no form of appeal against a comprehensive performance assessment - 'Appeals to CPA rating are vital, says LGA' (LGC 14, June). In fact, the commission is developing a process to deal with disputes over CPA judgments.
