Plans are being formed for an 'open, virtual college' for local government, a concept flagged in consultation on the future of the Local Government Management Board.
The idea, included in the Local Government Association's proposals for future training and development, won massive support from councils.
LGMB chief executive Judith Hunt said the feasibility of the proposal was being investigated by talking to universities and other bodies.
There was a dearth of quality training both for council staff and members, she said. Middle managers in particular suffered from a lack of development (LGC, 26 June).
