The Local Government Task Force (LGTF) has announced the appointment of Roy Irwin, head of housing best value inspection at the Audit Commission to the LGTF board. Irwin replaces Wendy Thomson who joins the Cabinet Office.

The appointment follows the announcement that four new LGTF board members would take up positions, including: Sarah Wood, director of finance and performance review for Birmingham City Council and vice-chairman of the local government procurement task force chaired by Ian Byatt. Ian Perry, chief executive of Harvest Group and member of the housing forum steering group. Trevor Pugh, director of environmental services for Harrow LBC and member of the SOLACE environment group. John Thornton, former managing director of CIPFA and currently director of e-government at IdeA.

LGTF board chairman Ted Cantle commented: 'Roy's appointment reflects the importance of the role of the Audit Commission in developing best value and the key constituents of Rethinking Construction. I am confident he will make a significant contribution to our efforts in the local government sector. Our thanks also go to Wendy who we wish well in her new post.'
