A Lib Dem early day motion was put down today calling for a unitary authority in Montgomeryshire and questioning the disparity in size between proposed new authorities in Wales.

The motion read noted 'with alarm that the proposed new unitary authority of Powys, with an area of 509,000 hectares would be twice the size of any other authority in Wales. A local authority of such great size will not 'enhance local accountability'. Regard should be given to the continuity of natural communities and local boundaries, the motion said.
