Liverpool City Council and refuse collection firm Onyx have agreed an out-of-court settlement after a binman suffered a serious knee injury trying to stop a runaway lorry.

The Daily Post reported (Oct 12, p5) that Barry Benson, who sued the council and Onyx, will get a £38,000 damages award.

The handbrake on the parked wagon failed while he and his colleagues were collecting rubbish at the top of a steep hill in the Wavertree area.
