The chair of Liverpool City Council's licensing committee was amongst 17 people arrested as part of a police investigation into a war between rival nightclub bouncers, The Independent reports (p5).

The paper says that Frances Kidd has been a long serving Labour member of the council.

Ms Kidd's solicitor, Rex Makin, said: 'She completely refutes the allegations. The whole procedure has been outrageous', the paper reports.
