Liverpool City Council's cabinet is set to hold a private session on Friday to discuss the future of chief executive Sir David Henshaw.

The meeting was originally scheduled for 8 April, but was cancelled to give members more time to prepare.

Sir David's future has been in question since an appointments sub-committee rejected proposals to give him a payment to avoid pension changes which would cost him 40% tax on any excess to his pension allowance (LGC, 25 March).

>> Liverpool's assistant executive director for media Matt Finnegan was suspended on 4 April and remains suspended. The council press office refused to explain the suspension, but a Liverpool source said it was pending an audit investigation over procurement of a contract.
