Liverpool City Council has advised school governors to appeal against a tribunal ruling which has reinstated a teacher sacked for alleged racist comments to a black pupil, The Times reports (p2).

The industrial tribunal ruled that the teacher was unfairly dismissed and ordered that he should get £30,000 compensation and his job back.

The tribunal said the school had not followed correct disciplinary procedures, the paper reports.
