Reprieve for asylum seekers from the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary,

Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia

The National Asylum Support Service and local authorities will hold off on evicting asylum seekers and will provide them with emergency support while they consider their cases in terms of human rights and await the results of two test cases that are being heard on 4 May. This is at the request of the courts to avoid unnecessary injunctions and legal actions.

Following today's government announcement, the Positive Action in Housing organisation advised:

'Accession country nationals should immediately contact NASS or social services explaining how their human rights may be affected by the withdrawal of support and accommodation and asking for a full assessment of their needs. This should

then ensure that they are not evicted over the weekend and that they get an

assessment, although much will depend on the court hearings on Tuesday.'
