Following the detailed scrutiny of the Local Government etc (Scotland) Bill during committee stage, the government has tabled amendments which would change the boundaries of a number of the proposed single-tier councils.

The changes are: * East Lothian and Midlothian each become new single-tier authorities * Falkirk and Clackmannan each become new single-tier authorities. The Kincardine area which previously formed part of the combined Clackmannan and Falkirk authority is included in the new Fife authority * the Ralston area is included within the new Renfrewshire authority * the boundary between Argyll and Bute and Dumbarton and the Clydebank has been adjusted to include a further small area to the South of Arden in Argyll and Bute * a number of areas have been added to the City of Dundee - the Balgarthro area, Birkhill cemetary, Baldragon Wood and Clatto Moor, and an area of land to the east of Forfar Road. The Invergowrie area is included within Perthshire and Kinross

The effect of these amendments will be to increase the number of councils in the proposed new structure to 32. The amendments will be discussed at the forthcoming report stage of the bill's consideration.
