Local government workers have voted overwhelmingly in consultative meetings to accept a pay offer of three per cent.

The deal covers 1.5 million local government workers - including nursery nurses, dinner ladies, refuse collectors, surveyors, social workers, architects, cleaners, clerks, secretaries - and the settlement date is April 1.

Unions - UNISON, TGWU and GMB - had recommended to their members that the deal be accepted as the 'best that could be achieved by negotiation'.
