David Blair, the sacked chief executive of Lochaber DC, had his appeal against dismissal rejected by a council appeal committee last night, reports The Herald (p2)

After an eight hour hearing the four person panel decided that the dismissal passed in January should stand.

Appeal committee chairman Drew MacFarlane Slack told the Herald:

'Unfortunately one of Mr Blair's witnesses could not attend but he was to present opinion and we felt that we should proceed. We listened to all the evidence presented and in the end concluded the district council had acted correctly'.
