There are massive variations in this year's council tax figures in London boroughs, ranging from a tax cut of 11.8% in Wandsworth LBC to an increase of 13.2% in Kingston-upon-Thames LBC.

The average rise is 6.3%, down on last year's figure of 7.8%. This is largely due to the reduction in the Greater London Authority's precept.

Wandsworth LBC has managed to cut its council tax to£398 for a band D property. The cuts by Tory-controlled Wandsworth are considered by some to be politically motivated because local government elections are due in May.

Neighbouring Westminster City Council blamed its council tax rise on the Greater London Authority precept.

Leader Simon Milton (Con) said: 'This is unacceptably high. Westminster's overall tax would be much lower but for this inflation busting rise.'

Croydon LBC residents voted for the lowest of three council tax options, choosing an increase of 3.65%.
