Sutton LBC is poised to sign a contract with the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) to buy their e-procurement product IDeA Marketplace . They are keen to grasp the government's target of having all council services and business processes available electronically by 2005.

The borough will be the second local authority in the country to do this. They believe it to be of enormous benefit in terms of improving the efficiency of its business processes and helping to meet the current e-government targets.

Steps the borough has already taken towards meeting the e-government agenda include the introduction of a corporate call centre using CRM technology and information kiosks across the borough. Its libraries are becoming one-stop service access points. Sutton's libraries having a 3-star best value rating and beacon council status.

Sutton has decided to sign with the IDeA as opposed to any other supplier of e-procurement packages because it has been designed specifically for use in local government, is inexpensive and very easy to operate. They are certain that by using IDeA Marketplace they will see significant efficiencies and savings in their business processes as well as improved purchasing.

They are particularly keen to use IDeA Marketplace to support the vitality of their business sector and foster its growth. Sutton has predominantly small businesses and is keen to use local suppliers as far as possible. The IDeA is happy for the system to be shared with local business suppliers so that they can make the purchasing processes as efficient as possible from ordering through to payment.

IDeA Marketplace will support the council's sustainability agenda and help foster their local businesses. It is the right e-procurement product for Sutton LBC and they hope the rest of local government will follow their lead and sign up to this important initiative.
