London councils are among those rushing to build new bridges across the Thames, The Daily Telegraph reports (p14).

There are at present four different bridge initiatives. The paper points out that, since there is no single government body for the capital, a number of individual bodies - among them the City Corporation and Westminster LBC - are taking the lead.

Among the schemes discussed are a covered bridge, a footbridge connecting St Paul's with Bankside, and a footbridge alongside Hungerford railway bridge.
