London's Docklands could have a tram system to complement the Docklands Light Railway, the Financial Times reports (p11).

The London Docklands Corporation is working on plans for a four-mile tram line to connect several new housing and business developments on the north side of the Thames with existing transport links.

The line would be built by a consortium involving the corporation, London Transport and Newham LBC. The provision of services would be franchised out to a private company.

The cost is estimated at between £13m and £14m.
