Firefighters from across London met last night to plan four nine-hour strikes in protest at a £25 million cut to the London Fire and Civil Defence Authority's budget.

Employers proposed that 22 stations would each lose one fire engine, and 650 jobs would go over the next three years.

The number of control staff taking emergency calls would be cut from 130 to 80, leaving as few as 10 people at night for the whole capital.
