London has been chosen as one of the cities to receive the first funds from a new European programme for the regeneration of urban areas.

Over £13m will be coming to London from the EU over the next three years to boost two key regeneration projects; Park Royal industrial estate and surrounding West London areas and the east end, including Spitalfields.

ALG environment committee chair, and London representative on the European committee of regions, Sally Powell, welcomed the funding announcement:

'This is very good news for London. The ALG has been campaigning for the European Union to target money at deprived urban areas and these are the first awards being made under the new structural funds for regeneration in urban areas.'
