A new survey by the London Research Centre has found that an ever increasing number of Londoners are using their cars for shopping, the Independent London section reports (p4).

After studying over 60,000 trips, the centre discovered 43% of all shopping trips were by car, as oppose to 29% in 1981.

A spokeswoman for Greenpeace said that if action was not taken, harmful emissions in the London area could increase by as much as 70% in the next 30 years, the paper reports.
