The ALA had welcomed today's announcement by the European Commission that for the first time London is to receive a cash boost from the Regional Development Fund.

The Lee Valley in North London, covering parts of Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest, will get a cash injection of £30m a year for the next three years in regional aid for economic regeneration.

ALA Chair Toby Harris said: London's battered economy will benefit to the tune of £90m over the next three years. It is disappointing, however, that the aid for economic regeneration will be restricted to the Lee Valley whilst other parts of London, such as the East Thames Corridor and Park Royal, are ignored'.
