Some of the most deprived London councils, such as Newham and Lambeth LBCs, have seen significant service improvements, according to the first Audit Commission report on the capital.

Council tax collection at Lambeth has improved by more than 20%, although it is still one of the worst in the country.

Hackney LBC has made huge improvements in the time it takes to relet a council house, reducing it by almost 10 weeks.

But it is one of two exceptions among the worst-performing councils. In contrast, Islington LBC is taking almost 10 weeks longer.
