Peter Nendick, 50, a senior beadle under 14 lord mayors, is due to appear before a disciplinary hearing next month.
He has been charged with breach of confidence after allegedly disclosing conversations held in the mayoral car to a third party and with acting improperly by putting his title on a business card advertising himself as a 'toastmaster for all occasions'.
Friends of Mr Nendick, who last year became the youngest ever prime warden for Great Britain and Northern Ireland of the Guild of Macebearers, said he was 'extremely shocked'.
