A 'chief of protocol' at Hull City Council has been suspended for alleged gross misconduct, reports the Yorkshire Post (p1).

Peter Nendick, 50, a senior beadle under 14 lord mayors, is due to appear before a disciplinary hearing next month.

He has been charged with breach of confidence after allegedly disclosing conversations held in the mayoral car to a third party and with acting improperly by putting his title on a business card advertising himself as a 'toastmaster for all occasions'.

Friends of Mr Nendick, who last year became the youngest ever prime warden for Great Britain and Northern Ireland of the Guild of Macebearers, said he was 'extremely shocked'.

A spokeswoman for the council said: 'It would be inappropriate...to comment on any individual case and unfair to staff.'
