Blaenau Gwent CC is to appeal to the Welsh Office for more money for training, on the grounds that the average pay in the county is nearly£100 below the UK norm, reports the Western Mail (p5).

Peter Slater, director of economic development, said that Blaenau Gwent deserved the highest possible priority for training resources.

'The figures (in an earnings survey) bring into sharp focus the urgent need to tackle the skills issues in Blaenau Gwent and strengthen the case for an enhanced level of support.'
