Luton has one of the best records in the region for winning lottery grants according to research obtained by the BBC, reports BBC Three Counties.

The news comes a year after the borough council appointed its own lottery officer specifically to help local groups win lottery grants. Then Luton was one of the also-rans in obtaining lottery handouts.

Now Luton is near the top of lottery grants league says research by the Directory of Social Change, having won grants totalling £5m in the past year, equivalent to £28 a head of population.

Dacorum BC tops the regional league while South Bedfordshire DC is at the bottom.

BBC Northampton reports that the East Northamptonshire DC area has one of the worst records in the region for winning national lottery money. The research shows only two organisations in the area have received grants so far.
