A National Audit Office report released today show the government's 600 mile motorway programme is costing millions of pounds more than estimated and is failing to tackle the worst congestion blackspots, the Guardian reports (p6).

Among the worst examples of overspends are a 188% increase for parts of the planned M4 widening between Reading and Swindon and a 400% increase for parts of Kent.
