A national conference investigating how partnerships between local authorities, business and local communities can improve the environment, is being held in London on February 12.

The conference organiser, the environmental organisation Groundwork, hopes to generate debate and raise key pre-election questions on the issue of the environment.

Among the speakers will be environment secretary John Gummer, Labour's deputy leader John Prescott, Louise Ellman, leader of Lancashire CC, and Keith Taylor, chairman of ESSO UK.

The items under discussion will include regenerating local communities, the setting of a future agenda that takes into account the increasing demands of legislation, and the 'partnership approach'.

Further information is available from the conference organiser, Ewa Edwards, on 0121 236 8565.
