Malvern Hills DC chief executive Martin Jones is to retire before the council reorganises in April 1998.

The district will lose part of its territory to the new Herefordshire unitary council next April. Yesterday 42 members were due to be elected to the new shadow Malvern Hills, 15 less than the current district.

Mr Jones, appointed chief executive in 1987, will become temporary head of paid service until a permanent chief executive is appointed by September this year at the latest.
