Managers' pay rose 6.2% on average last year, the highest annual rise since 1992 reports the Financial Times (p9).

The figures from pay consultancy Remuneration Economics show that directors' rises were 7.2%, down from 9% the year before, and both groups got record bonuses.

Public sector directors are the least well paid, earning an average of£58,131. The survey found a skills shortage at the top of companies, with more having trouble filling management posts.
