The director of housing at Manchester City Council has said he is furious at a local government ombudsman for ruling that a man, who refused offers of ten different homes and then threatened council staff, should be given the pick of three bedroom homes in the area of his choice, reports the Daily Mail (p24).

Steve Mycio said that at one point the unnamed man sent in a letter covered in excrement, abused staff in the street and made threatening phone calls.

Mr Mycio said: 'Our staff are used to swearing and temper but this was a different league. He was endlessly and extremely abusive'.

The council has now taken the man off their housing list, the paper reports.
