Three Manchester City councillors have been forced to endure hate calls after a tabloid newspaper attacked them for successfully campaigning to have a strip bar closed down.

Labour members Val Edwards (far right, above) and Kath Fry (far left) and Liberal Democrat Alison Firth (white jumper) have been subjected to obscene and threatening telephone calls following their efforts to ban Manchester's Fantasy Bar.

The Sport and its sister newspaper Sunday Sport published pictures of the three and fellow campaigner Billie Ibidum (centre right, above) along with their work telephone numbers, inviting readers to 'tell 'em what you think'.

One story in the Sunday Sport was headlined 'Who do you think you are kidding, Mrs Hitlers?'

An article by 'voice of reason' Jack Essex claimed: 'These women may think we're being a bit unfair. But them and people like them in councils up and down the country play their political games with our lives and that is bloody unfair.'

The Fantasy Bar is still operating pending an appeal.
