Manchester CC welcomed the response from the DoE today, that the city will receive financial help to help repair damage caused by last year's IRA bomb.

The DoE has announced that consideration will be given to the request for assistance through a special grant under the Local Government Finance Act 1988, rather than the Bellwin scheme.

The DoE will consider expenditure incurred within two months of the blast, and will take into account lost income from car parks and the Arndale Market.

The council has claimed a total of£5.1m, and the DoE is now considering the amount.
