The Labour party looks set to win the election this week with the largest parliamentary majority held by any party since the war, the Observer reported (p1).

The newspaper's own poll of 16 marginal constituencies suggests that Conservative support has fallen further in key marginals than in other seats.

Opinion polls for other papers show Labour's lead ranging from 15 to 24 points.

The Observer says nine of the 16 marginal seats are being defended by Cabinet ministers. Likely victims include Scottish secretary Michael Forsyth.
