Council services across Birmingham face being brought to a standstill in the New year in a protest by staff against job cuts, the Birmingham Post reports (20 November p4).

City leaders have written to 11,000 mostly white-collar council workers asking if they are willing to accept voluntarily redundancy to help meet spending cuts expected from next April, the paper says.

Shop stewards of both white and blue collar workers are to meet soon to decided whether to ballot their members on a possible strike.
