The new contract, which will begin on 1 July, will encompass a wide range of services involving the administration of housing benefits; financial and accounting services including payroll; the collection of revenues such as council tax and business rates; elections management and electoral registration; and information technology services such as desktop support and systems management.
Through the partnership, Capita will be bringing new jobs to the area. Thirty five additional jobs will be retained in Shepton Mallet and this will increase to 65 within the first two years of the Partnership.
Simon Pilling, Capita divisional director said: 'We are excited by the prospect of playing a key role in Mendip's future service provision over the next 12 years. We fully embrace Mendip's objective to ensure that flexible and innovative solutions will deliver high quality services to Mendip's customers.'
A significant component of the contract will involve Capita supporting the development and implementation of Mendip's IT strategy with the ultimate aim of modernising the council's approach to technology. As a result, the council will be able to broaden its range of online services to citizens in a more cost-effective and efficient manner. For instance, citizens will be able to access their council tax and housing benefit details online.
As part of the partnership to deliver enhanced quality public services to citizens, Capita will be looking at new ways of bringing the council closer to its community. For instance, Capita will be devising innovative methods to reach out to the residents and businesses of Mendip DC that are based in isolated areas where limited public transport is available.
