The Association of Metropolitan Authorities' domination of the new Local Government Association looks set to continue with the appointments of the remaining committee chairmen.

AMA members have so far secured six of the possible 12 chairs and are tipped to secure another two by the time the LGA is active.

In many cases where AMA members have chairmanships, Association of County Council members have taken vice- chairman posts.

ACC secretary Robin Wendt said: 'It had always been our assumption there would be an equal distribution of committee chairs between the various joining associations.'

The remaining committees to be elected are transport, waste management, police, fire and housing. Housing was due to be announced as LGC went to press this week and the rest by the end of February.
