Villagers in Treherbert, Mid Glamorgan, are planning to set up their own community council, after fears that they will lose their voice in local government after reorganisation.
The Western Mail (Oct 14, p5) reported that Treherbert will lose two of its four council seats when Rhondda Cynon Taff UA takes over from Mid Glamorgan CC.
Local people are due to meet to discuss setting up a community council with 12 councillors to protect their interests. If the council is formed it will be the first in the Rhondda Valley.
John Dilworth of the Wales Association of Community and Town councils will speak at the meeting. He told the Western Mail: 'With some villages losing councillors in the reorganisation, I feel it is important for communities in Rhondda to have a community council which will bridge that democratic gap between the community and the new unitary authority.'
