A Conservative MP has criticised Middlesbrough BC for spending £8,000 on a weekend seminar at a four star hotel.

The Daily Telegraph (p10) reports that a party of 65 councillors and staff booked into the hotel shortly after appealing to the government for more funds.

Middlesbrough BC chief executive David Ashton told the paper: 'It is crucial that we spend some extra time to look in depth at the work we have done in preparing for the new authority and move our strategy forward.'
