Almost 60 councils and other organisations have called for the proposed extension of Dudley's giant Merry Hill Shopping Centre to be scrapped, The Birmingham Post reports (p4).

Dudley MBC discusses the proposed £100m extension tomorrow.

Objections to the scheme have been lodged by Birmingham, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton metropolitan councils.

Further opposition has come from Bromsgrove, Redditch, Worcester City, the Wrekin, Wychavon, Wyre Forest councils as well as Hereford and Worcester and Staffordshire CCs.

Redditch BC says the proposed extension would 'adversely affect the vitality and viability of Redditch town centre.'
