A Midlands local authority was last night at the centre of a fraud inquiry following the arrest of one of its senior executives, the Financial Times reports (p12).

The chief planning officer at Warwick DC was arrested after a year- long police inquiry, the paper reports. The paper says that Warwick police said the inquiry involved planning applications for housing and industrial developments. Serving councillors, former councillors and officials will also be questioned.

Mr Wilson, one of the longest serving planning officers in the country was arrested at the council headquarters. Police sealed off the first-floor planning offices and removed large numbers of documents, the paper said.

It emerged yesterday, the paper reported, that leader of the council's Tory group, Tony Dalton, had been helping with the investigation for more than a year, the paper reports.
