The Millennium Commission has awarded £15m to the proposed Dynamic Earth Exhibition Centre on the site of the former Holyrood Brewery in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town.

Scottish industry minister George Kynoch said:

'I am pleased that the Millennium Commission has recognised the importance of the Dynamic Earth Exhibition Centre as an outstanding addition to Edinburgh's visitor attractions, as a significant educational and cultural landmark for the city and as a real force in regenerating a neglected part of Edinburgh's Old Town.

'I congratulate the Dynamic Earth Trust, Lothian & Edinburgh Enterprise Ltd and the other funding partners for their achievement in securing Millennium Commission approval. Thanks are also due to Scottish & Newcastle Breweries and British Gas for their role in enabling the project to get off the ground.

'The Exhibition Centre can now look forward to becoming one of Scotland's premier visitor attractions.'
