Millions up for grabs for community enterprises

  • Comment

Community organisations can bid for millions of pounds from next week to help them run public services.

The Our Place scheme is being run by social enterprise network Locality in conjunction with the Local Government Association and delivery partners.

It will deliver £4.3m of support made available by the Department for Communities and Local Government to transform public service delivery.

The scheme will open for bids on Monday 20 January and will award grants of between £3,000 and £20,000 along with consultancy, guidance and networking opportunities.

Registered charities, community organisations, parish and town councils, local authorities and other public sector service bodies in England will be able to apply.

An LGA spokesman said: “As applications roll in, we will start to see how local authorities and other public sector organisations want to work with communities and develop this kind of working throughout the programme.”

More than 80 mutuals are currently delivering more than £1bn of public services in the UK and the government wants these figures to grow.
