  • Comment
Milton Keynes Council and environmental services provider Serco have signed a new contract for waste management and street cleansing services from March.

Serco is planning to introduce a number of improvements to the service which will include kitchen waste collections in 2009, ‘green’ vehicles as well as devising more environmentally friendly collection routes.

In addition to helping the council reduce its carbon footprint, Serco will also be working closely with the council on promotional activities, to encourage the residents of Milton Keynes to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

The contract will be supported by the introduction of a new fleet of vehicles displaying the Councils own branded livery.

Cabinet member for environmental services Chris Williams said: “The signing of this contract marks a huge step forward for Milton Keynes.

"As part of this contract we will see in the summer 2009 the introduction of a combined garden and food waste collection to all homes in the city.”

Serco Integrated Services Chief Executive Mike Brown, added: “We have been most encouraged by the collaborative approach of the council, which I am certain will result in the provision of an excellent service to the people of Milton Keynes.”
