Education minister Robin Squire published a table ranking each local education authority according to the percentage of the Potential Schools Budget they had delegated to schools in 1996/97 (WA 30 October col 130).

Top of the table was Dudley MBC, which had decided not to delegate 3.9% of its PSB, followed by Brent LBC (5.4%) and Solihull MBC (5.6%).

At the other end of the table, Newham LBC held 14.9% of its PSB centrally, followed by Haringey (13.6%) and Gateshead MBC (13.2%).
