Home Office Minister, David Maclean yesterday issued a strong warning against 'soft' policies for young offenders in local authority secure units, reports the Daily Mail (p11).

Children in this situation must not expect tea and sympathy, said Mr Maclean, replying Halesowen and Stourbridge Tory MP, Warren Hawksley, who said trips were costing Shropshire social services £1,600 per child per week.
