The Local Government Association will today urge the government to set up an inquiry into teachers' pay and conditions, reports the Mirror (p18).

Education chair Graham Lane said: 'We need to do something urgently to restore the morale of the teaching force.'

However, teachers' leaders warn that any move to tamper with school holidays could be resisted with strike action.
