Birmingham notched up a further success in the campaign to bring more government activity out of London with the news that the Local Better Regulation Office (LBRO) will be based in the city.

Cabinet member for regeneration, Ken Hardeman, said:

'The 'Next Stop Birmingham' campaign which Locate in Birmingham has directed has already had significant success with the arrival of the Gambling Commission and the Big Lottery Fund. The Local Better Regulation Office is another welcome project.

'As with other successes our central location within the UK and relative closeness to London were significant factors in this decision. We know that these strengths allied to the skills and aptitude of the local people will deliver other projects from both the public and private sectors in the near future.'
