Figures released today by Local Government Minister David Curry show that more than 700,000 council tax appeals still have to be resolved.

In a parliamentary written answer Mr Curry said as at 30 November 1993, 860,305 proposals for the alteration of the valuation list in England had been received by the Valuation Office Agency.

'This represents 4.28% of the total number of dwellings in the valuation lists. Of these, 146,400 had already been settled. My department is considering the arrangements for dealing with outstanding appeals with the Agency and representatives of the valuation tribunal service.'
