The mother of a six-year old girl has blamed education officials at Newport CBC after her daughter suffered horrific injuries when her school railings crashed on her head, reports The Western Mail (p3).

Abigail Purnell will be scarred for life after having 40 stitches to the wound. Her mother Chantelle said several complaints were made about the railings at the Gaer Junior and Infants school in Newport. The family plans legal action against the council.

A Newport spokeswoman said: 'The incident is being investigated and the council would like to extend its sympathy for the accident.'
