An increasing number of motorists are heeding the call to limit car use when air quality is poor, according to a survey undertaken for the DoE following a period of poor air quality at the beginning of August.

Eighteen per cent of drivers surveyed said that they had decided not to use their cars on at least one occasion during the high levels of air pollution.

This compares with 10% reporting taking action when a similar survey was carried out a year ago.
