MPO will make its debut at this year's Trades Union Congress with attacks on fixed-term contracts and deregulation.

Led by general secretary Graham Corless, the chief officer union's delegation is to move two resolutions at the Blackpool congress, which starts on Monday week.

The first criticises the 'increasing drive towards long hours and deregulated contracts' and says: 'It is essential that short-term, fixed-term temporary and other contractual devices to remove job security are outlawed.'

A second resolution calls on congress to recognise the need for a 'concerted campaign to restore safe levels of professional expertise and influence in order to protect the public from an increasingly deregulated environment'.
